Donald Finks Enjoys Camp
Local Youth Writes of Life in Far California.

The age old search for gold in them thar hills is one of the recreations of Donald Finks of Grand Rapids, who now is stationed at Quincy, Calif., with one of Uncle Sam's Work army groups.

Donald describes camp life in a letter to the folk at home received this week. He writes:

"I am enjoying the California sunshine and the camp also. When I am not working I'm busting up rocks and looking for gold in them. It's nice in the daytime and we use four woolen blankets to keep warm in the nights.

We are 1,280 feet above sea level and stationed at Feather river canyon which is three and one half miles from Quincy.

The forest we are located in contains 107,000 acres.

Some of the boys have seen rattlesnake, bear, deer and some cowboys!"
