White League.

In Louisiana the atrocious acts of the negroes have driven the whites into the formation of a White League, and all white men, of all parties are joining it and the land owners are asking what the attitude toward the negro is. In many cases they do not employ them on their farms without their residence in any capacity. Much hostility has been engendered toward the negroes—great many of them who live in the country are fleeing to the cities for protection. This bitter feeling has been produced by the agitation in Congress of the social equality bill. The meanest white wretches in the South who have grown rich in short time, through negro suffrage, have urged the dusky, flat nose and heel to assaults upon the perfect social equality with the white race, and under such tutorage the negroes have grown so intolerably insolent (where they have the numbers,) that the whites who own the soil have had to organize in self defense. To show the aims of this organization, we extract the following from their city paper, the "Crescent City White League:"

It is time that a timely and powerful union of the whites, as a race be organized, and then efficient preparations for any emergency may arrest the threatened horrors of social war and teach the blacks to beware of further insolence and aggression.

A prominent member of the League said to a correspondent, that the Democrats of Louisiana have tried all the dodges and games known to their party. We have been beaten—we are in the last ditch, and we intend to try anything to carry the coming election.

The Democratic press have come out boldly and advocated the discharge of all the negroes in the employ of the whites. The whole Southern mind is centralizing around this point—opposition to the negro. During the last thirty days this idea has been spreading and deepening more than ever before. It means blood—civil war—the destruction or deportation of the negro race. This apprehension is shared by all the law abiding citizens in the State. Already scores of negroes are seeking refuge in the city, and hundreds will be compelled to leave the State. So says a New Orleans correspondent of the Chicago Inter-Ocean. To all of which we utter a hearty Amen.

If the odious inferior race will persist in forcing, in contravention of the Divine law, a social equality which is as impossible as the admixture of oil and water, then we say let the whites rally around the standard of White Supremacy, and by disfranchising every black boot in the land, and divide up the large farms and donate a small farm each to white settlers. This alone will put a quietus to the audacity and insolence of the negroes. The Government will then be compelled to send them back to Africa, where they rightfully belong.
