Lindley, of His Majesty's frigate, [with] the Stirling Castle, Cambridge, Dragon and Marlborough Men of War, being ordered to batter the Morro Castle at the Havannah, waited upon Admiral Pocock, and represented to him, that as he commanded only a Frigate, he could be of no Service, nor acquire Honour; therefore requested, that if any of the four Ships lost their Captains, he might be permitted to take the command during the Cannonade; which Request the Admiral complied with; and Captain Lindley accordingly kept his Barge ready, and well manned, and in about five Minutes the Cambridge threw out the Signal for the Captain being killed, when Capt.
