THE NEW APPORTIONMENT OF MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

It is said that the committee of the House has agreed upon 68,000 as the representative number. This gives 224 members; to Vermont 4, with a fraction of 19,948. In order to give Vermont 5 members, the representative number must be reduced to 53,000, when the House would consist of 261 members. The House now consists of 242 members.

We shall, in our next, give a comparative statement of the representation of each state, as now existing, and as it will be under the proposed ratio.
