The Fireburg Husband of the Suicide Caught at Vancouver.
Rothenbental, husband of the woman who committed suicide early Friday morning, and who was charged in a letter written by her immediately before her death, with the crime of arson, was arrested last night at Vancouver, B. C., as he was leaving the boat. This information was received late last night by Chief Mitchell, at whose instance the arrest was made.
When Chief Mitchell learned the contents of the letters left by the suicide, he determined to arrest Rothenbental if her charges could be sustained. He telegraphed to Salem and learned that Rothenbental did burn his house there, as was published in a special in the Post-Intelligencer yesterday.
In the meantime Rothenbental had flown the city. Chief Mitchell then wired to all ports in British Columbia. The result was that Rothenbental was arrested at Vancouver at about 1 o'clock last night, as stated above.
An agent of the companies that held insurance on the Salem house burned by Rothenbental, arrived in Seattle last night. He says the companies will prosecute the firebug and are anxious to have him brought back to American soil.
Chief Mitchell telegraphed to the Vancouver authorities last night to hold Rothenbental on a charge of arson and that an officer would be sent after him immediately.
