Confessed Dynamiter Testifying Before Investigating Committee.
Western Press.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Nov. 9.—Ortie F. McManigal, to whose confession as a dynamiter, is attributed many of the circumstances which led to the imprisonment of the McNamara brothers in California and to the indictment in Indianapolis of forty-five labor leaders now being tried, took the stand as a witness for the government in the 'dynamite trial' today. The chief facts about him are:
McManigal was indicted in Los Angeles county for blowing up the Llewellyn Iron Works Dec. 25, 1910, and now as a prisoner of California he is 'loaned' to the federal authorities here.
He has confessed to having caused the Llewellyn explosion for complicity in which John J. McNamara, secretary of the iron workers' union, was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment. He also confessed personally to causing twenty other explosions.
He was selected to do the dynamiting because of his familiarity with explosives, which he gained while working in a stone quarry.
