Seize Pair In $5,000 Swindle

NEW YORK-(ANP)- Mrs. Evelyn Bennett, 27, and Miss LaChristo Wilson, 28, Harlem, were charged with swindling a 66-year-old Flatbush resident of her $5,000 life savings. The ancient "pigeon drop" fraud was used to dupe Miss Eleanor Paddock. The pair were held on $5,000 bail each for hearing July 9.

Seized by Detective Alfred Fingerhut after being sought for nearly two months, the women were identified by Miss Paddock as the pair who accosted her in a Flatbush department store with a story of having found an envelope containing $6,000. She said they offered to share the 'find' with her if she could put up some security.

She agreed and withdrew all of her savings but $30 from a bank and gave it to them. They then remembered an important phone call they had to make and asked her to wait until they returned which she did until they were nabbed.
