SHOWDOWN ON REPEAL ISSUE

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22. (U.P.) Prohibition and repeal forces were being marshalled today for a showdown battle on the 18th amendment.

A conference of 750 prohibition leaders had been called to meet here March 7 and 8 to map plans for a campaign that will touch perhaps every state in the Union.

The preliminary organization is being handled by the Board of Temperance, Prohibition and Public Morals of the Methodist Episcopal church, South.

In other parts of the country, churches were making plans for prohibition rallies with a fighting spirit that has not existed since prohibition was written into the federal law.

At the same time leading wet organizations planned to bring the full force of their fighting organizations into play.
