BEATRICE HAS ONLY 60 FIRES IN 1915

Report of Fire Chief Otto Shows Conflagrations for Year Were Few and Damage Resulting Was Comparatively Small

Beatrice has been exceptionally fortunate during the past year as regards fires, according to the report of Fire Chief Ed Otto submitted to the city commissioners at their meeting this afternoon.

Chief Otto's report dates from October 1, 1915 to January 1, 1916 and is as follows:

Number of fires, 16.

Feet of hose laid, 4,700.

Feet of chemical hose used, 1,250.

Distance traveled going to fires, 21 miles.

Time at fires, 12 hours and forty-five minutes.

Fires extinguished by chemicals, 3; by water, 6; neither used, 7.

Value of buildings involved, $51,615; value of contents involved, $23,617; total, $74,617.

Insurance on buildings, $30,451.59; insurance on contents, $14,908.41; total, $45,360.

Fire loss on buildings, $3,254.90; on contents, $947.00; total loss, $4,201.90.

Insurance paid on buildings, $2,264.90; on contents, $970; total, $3,234.90.

Causes of fire-unknown, 4; spontaneous combustion, 6; boys and matches, 1; burning weeds, 2; chimneys burning out, 2; defective flues, 1.
