Crime Prevention Sunday Set Today

Atlantans interested in the reduction of homicides and crime will have an opportunity to hear Councilman Douglas Wood representing Mayor Wm. B. Hartsfield today at 4 P. M. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Rev. M. L. King, pastor.

With a 102 homicide rate, of which 85 were committed by Negroes in 1950, the Atlanta Committee on Crime Prevention, which is sponsoring its First Quarterly Crime Prevention Sunday hopes to keep the record down in 1951. So far two such crimes have been committed by Negroes this year, but the group will outline a plan of action this afternoon through which it hopes to arouse public sentiment to the extent that homicides and crime will be kept to a minimum.

In addition to Councilman Wood, representatives of churches, educational, businesses and other organizations will be on program. Music will be furnished by the Ebenezer Baptist Church choir under direction of Mrs. Alberta King and the Atlanta Life Ensemble directed by Mrs. Leslye Nolan. Devotions will be led by Rev. R. B. Shorts; Atty. A. T. Walden will be Master of Ceremonies, and C. A. Scott will make an appeal for funds. A delegation representing the Crime Prevention Committee incorporated, of Fulton County, is expected to be present.
