Alaska Fishermen Merge With ILWU

SEATTLE, (AP)--The merger of the Alaska Fishermen's union with Harry Bridges' International Longshoremen & Warehousemen's Union (IND) has been affirmed by the members, a union official said today.

Oscar Anderson, A.F.U. secretary-treasurer, said the confirmation came during a series of unity conferences in Seattle. The meetings were attended by delegates from A.F.U. branches in San Francisco, Portland, Bellingham, Anchorage, Ketchikan and Dillingham. Anderson said a long fight has been waged within the fishermen's union over the merger with the ILWU, which was recently ousted from the CIO for left-wing activities.

Representatives of the union will meet Wednesday with the Alaska Salmon Industry, Inc., to submit proposals for contract negotiations, Anderson said.
