Full Text

The trial of parties engaged in the "Opera Comique" conspiracy, to take the life of the Emperor of the French, has just come to a close. Six of the prisoners were acquitted, and twenty-one found guilty, with extenuating circumstances. Of the latter seven has been sentenced to transportation, three to eight years exile, and the rest to terms of imprisonment varying from five to ten years.

It is rather funny that the "Opera Comique" should have been selected, for so serious a matter as the death of the Emperor; it can only be accounted for on the grounds of French eccentricity.
