Columbia Ph. D. Dean of Women at Hampton
Hampton Institute, Va. Announcement has just been made from the office of President Arthur Howe that Dr. Beulah Clark Van Wagenen has been appointed Dean of Women to succeed Miss Dorothy Hopson.
Dr. Van Wagenen comes to Hampton Institute with a background of broad education and culture, on the one hand; and with an experience, on the other, in fields that admirably fit her for the post.
She was graduated from Muskingum College in 1924; completed work for the Master's degree at Ohio State University in 1925; and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University in 1929. She is a member of the American Association of Consulting Psychologists, and is second Vice President of Pi Lambda Theta, national honorary education fraternity for women.
Her experience has been both in the fields of professional education, and administration of affairs in connection with women. She has taught in rural schools; has been the assistant Principal of a high school; Assistant Professor of Education in Muskingum College; Student Instructor and Scholar in English at Alabama Polytechnic Institute.
At Muskingum College she served as Director of the Women's Dormitory; and she has been Director of Admissions and Dean of Freshmen at the New Jersey College for Women. To all of this should be added the fact she has already become acquainted with the work and ideals of Hampton Institute.
