ALATAMAHA MISSION. GA.
Dear Brother,
Though we cannot send such cheering accounts from this part of the work as some of our brethren in other parts can do, yet you will rejoice to hear that it is well with us even here. We have fourteen preaching places, six meeting-houses, above one hundred members, and one Sabbath school. Our second quarterly meeting which commenced on Saturday, 17th ultimo, at Prospect, near Town Bluff, Appling county, was attended by our beloved presiding elder, Wm. Choise, who, notwithstanding the feeble state of his health, preached on Sabbath to an attentive congregation. Our log meeting house was crowded, and many came to the altar of God for his people to pray for them. We were kindly treated by the friends in the neighborhood during the meeting. On last Sabbath we had a good meeting at the same place, when we received five members on probation. Since quarterly meeting we have received in all thirty one; one of them is said to be above fourscore years old, whose trembling limbs bore him along to give his hand, and promised to flee from the wrath to come, while the penitential tear was seen to flow down his time-worn cheek. Our feelings on such an occasion can be felt than described. Pray for us, dear brother.
With unfeigned respect, I remain
yours,
J. MIDDLETON.
