Mrs. W. J. Bartlett Announces That
She is to Retire
Mrs. W. J. Bartlett is to retire from business and the Bartlett Grocery store will be closed as soon as the stock of goods is disposed of. She desires to be free from business cares.
The store was opened in 1894 by the late Walter J. Bartlett and Frank Brainard. After a few months Mr. Bartlett became the sole owner and conducted it very successfully until his sudden death three years ago.
Mrs. Bartlett had been his adviser and assistant and was fully competent to take charge of the management of the store, which had achieved a high reputation for the quality of its merchandise and the service it gave to customers. With the help of her daughters and Thomas Jones she kept the business up to its standard, and the volume of trade continued to increase.
Now she feels that she is entitled to a rest. She has always taken an active interest in public affairs, is a member of the town school committee and has held other offices.
