Full Text
Congress assembles again to-day. We trust that the members have had enough of holiday amusements and will now go to work and do its business energetically, thoroughly and faithfully. It is about time it commenced. There is much to be done. If they succeed in wisely adapting measures and policies to the existing wants of the country, they will merit and they will receive the thanks and honor of the whole people. If, on the contrary, they waste their time in buncombe speeches, and silly efforts to further outside private or political projects, they will prove their unworthiness and challenge the scorn and derision of the people now and hereafter. We would be glad to see the present Congress evince a true conception of its duty and responsibility. It would be too much to expect that every member will do this. But the majority of them ought to do it, and this much we heartily pray for.
