Capt. M. was sitting on the dam endeavoring to get some drift wood out of the river, and as the negro ran across the Irishman picked up a large iron tap and threw at the negro, which missed and struck the Captain on the side of the head, knocking out a piece of the skull about an inch and a half long and about three fourths of an inch in width.
