Not Much of a Revolution.
New York Sun.
The tramp of armed men is not heard; and yet the committee on investigation have made tremendous strides toward establishing the electoral fraud, the proof of which it was predicted would bring on a bloody revolution? John Sherman and Stanley Matthews are already virtually destroyed, and not a gun has been fired-not a sabre drawn. What a bloodless revolution! There has, indeed, been a revolution in public sentiment, and that is all. People in general were hardly prepared to behold the de facto secretary of the treasury come so close to pleading guilty that a near-sighted person could not see the difference. Where is the stagnation and injury to business which the Hayes papers were so glib in predicting? They are not perceptible in the great commercial metropolis of the country, nor, as to that, anywhere else. They exist in the only place they ever have existed-in the imagination of the timid who fear the right. A revolution absolutely peaceable -a revolution from fraud and chicanery to truth and justice- need have no terrors to a free people. All can now perceive its safety.
