Full Text

We hear from various parts of the commonwealth that his excellency John Hancock, Esq. will have a very large majority of votes for Governor.

So many gentlemen are voted for, for the office of Lieutenant Governor, that it is expected there will be no choice by the people.

It is said, that should the eastern counties of this commonwealth become a separate state, they propose giving it the name of Columbia, as an honor due to the memory of Christopher Columbus, the first discoverer of this continent, which ought to have been called by his name, and not after Americus, who was only an adventurer after riches, many years after Columbus had found the new world as it was then called.
