Since the closing of the Home Bank and Trust Co., on November 27th. and the Bank of Manning on December 1st, there has been a great deal of wild talk about these institutions, and we dare say a lot of this talk is by people that do not know what they are talking about-still they talk.
We have heard depositors of both banks say that in fairness to all depositors (and it is the depositors that make up a bank) they should be allowed to know how their money was used. We might say right here that we have not heard of any corruption or crookedness charged to the officials of either institution. They feel though, that it was their own money and they should be granted the privilege of knowing how it was handled. In other words they want a statement of these banks published, and published in a form that any one can understand it. And in behalf of the depositors and the banks we suggest that the Receivers of each bank make up a statement of all monies owing each bank and who owes them. Also the money each bank owes. If this statement itemized is published then everybody interested will have a clear conception about their money. If the Receivers will do this, The Manning Times will publish the statements free of charge.
