To Correspondents.
We regret not having room for the whole letter of our Camden correspondent, "Total Abstinence," giving an interesting account of Mr. J. G. Bowyer's Address, before the Washington Temperance Society of Camden, from which we select the following: "That part of his speech which referred to the manufacture and trade of the liquid poison, surpassed any thing that we ever heard on any former occasion, and if there was any dealer in, or vender of this article present, who did not feel the pang of remorse while he portrayed in the most glowing colors the awful responsibility of that soul, he must surely be given over to 'hardness of heart and reprobacy of mind.' He spoke of the sin and misery following the sale of this article, and the account which would be required of those who so successfully propagate crime, by dealing out Rum to the poor inebriate, thus draining his pockets of the last cent, which should have gone to purchase food for a starving family. On this subject he continued, and in an eloquent strain endeavored to persuade men to abandon the practice which would entail vice and crime upon the human family."
To our correspondents, "Tanks own Bard" "E. M." and "W. S." we offer as an apology for the (to us) mortifying delay of their communications, the sickness of the publisher he has "La grippe."
From a correspondent at Providence, we learn that the "Providence Temperance Society," now numbers 140 members, and that the cause is in a prosperous condition there. They have also formed an anti-Gambling Society, to which there are 26 signatures Success to them.
