HARTFORD. October 9

Admiral Digby arrived at New York the 25th ult. with three ships of the line, one frigate, and no more. His Royal Highness Prince William Henry, third son of his Britannic Majesty, came passenger in the fleet.

The British naval force now at New York, fit for service, is 20 sail of the line. Count de Grasse has 27 sail of the line; a great superiority, notwithstanding the arrival of Admiral Digby, on which the enemy built their principal hope.

The enemy's principal force is now on Staten Island—they have been impressing waggons, horses, &c. and, it is conjectured, are planning some expedition.
