Still on the Ground.

The gentlemen representing a Holland Syndicate, with headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., who are here in conference with Col. W. L. Whitaker and others, relative to the extension and final completion of the Fort Smith road, are here to-day, guests at the popular Huckins House. As stated by us yesterday, these gentlemen are especially desirous of locating a colony of their countrymen in Arkansas, and have selected the line of the proposed route of the Texarkana & Fort Smith as a country suited to their purpose. It is an established fact that the people of this nation are not alone the best, most thrifty and successful farmers, but are good, sober citizens and indefatigable workers in every line of industry. This, above all others, is the class of immigration most needed and desired in Arkansas, where brain and muscle are the only necessary adjuncts to a successful existence, and where the man of experienced labor commands a sufficient capital to do a thriving and money making business in any one of a half dozen different locations. That the location of this colony would, for many reasons, conduce to the early completion of the road, and vice versa, is clearly apparent, as the men interested in the former project are the representatives of a syndicate, which, it is believed, can be induced to take an interest in the latter, commensurate with that of the former, provided, of course, the same shall be approved and finally determined upon by its representatives, who are here on the field.
