Estimate of Bishop Brown.

Pinkney, Ark., Special.

The people here were much delighted to see the news of their town in the leading Negro journal in America. We have some good white people down here. They seem to appreciate the outspoken Freeman, I sold a white man one of the copies of The Freeman that had Bishop Brown's death in it, and he had read the Bishop's plea for the Negro to vote for Cleveland or stay at home during the campaign, and he said: That he had rather heard of two or three hundred people dying than Bishop Brown. We are going to try to circulate The Freeman from Memphis to Helena, up and down the Mississippi river. Mrs. Ella Griffin has been ill but has recovered. Rev. Sam. A. Borum is expecting to start a night school, in short, for the benefit of the older people. Mr. Reuben Taylor is quite an industrious young man. Mr. Guy Anderson will be home this week, we will be glad to see him. Mrs. Mary E. Clayborn would be another Ida B. Wells, with a little encouragement. The death of Mrs. Bird this week was quite a surprise. The members of the A. M. E. church are anxious for Dr. J. M. Conner's quarter to come. Rev. D. A. Borum is moving all the time, trying to do something to elevate the Negro race. Brother George Jeams is down with rheumatism.
