NEW YORK. - Senator Arthur Capper of Kansas, member of the board of directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, has tentatively accepted an invitation to address the Annual Spring Conference of the Association in Pittsburgh, June 30 to July 5, as has also Mayor Frank Murphy of Detroit.
Others who have accepted invitations to address the Pittsburgh conference are Mrs. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, of Palmer Memorial institute, Sedalia, N. C., and Dr. W. E. B. Du Bois, who will speak on problems connected with the economic future of the Negro in America.
Senator Capper, in his letter of acceptance, states that his coming is contingent upon the permission of his doctors and says:
"I deeply appreciate the invitation to speak at the Annual conference at Pittsburgh on June 30. The doctors here tell me I must slow down. I have been trying to do too much and they particularly urge me to cut out speaking engagements. However, I am most anxious to serve the N. A. A. C. P. and will come if I possibly can. I think I will be all right by June 30. If you care to do so you can put me on the program with the understanding that I will be there if my physician does not veto the proposition."
Mayor Murphy, whose address at the liberal conference in Washington created a sensation and who has insisted upon full equality for colored people in the elaborate relief organized for unemployed by the city of Detroit, also states that he will be present at the Pittsburgh conference of the N. A. A. C. P. if it is at all possible.
Other prominent speakers will be announced shortly who with those above insure one of the most brilliant programs ever held on race relations.
