Although citizens of Columbus have long wanted a union depot, railroad officials who have been spending the past several days here state that a station of this kind will not be erected now, but that extensive improvements will be made on both the Southern and Mobile and O. depots.

Marion J. Wise, assistant general manager of the M. and O., and Supt. C. A. Pigford, of the same line, were among the party here, and made known the fact that extensive improvements at the Southern depot had been ordered, and that plans to relieve the crowded situation at the M. and O. were being worked out.

Mr. Wise stated that he was opposed to a union station for this city both from the railroad's standpoint and from the standpoint of the best interests of Columbus.
