Durham, Oct. 11.-While Duke University's football team remains idle over this weekend, the soccer and cross country teams will launch their seasons, the latter meeting Guilford College at Guilford tomorrow morning and the former facing the University of Maryland booters on the Duke field tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow's clash will be the first between soccer teams of Duke and Maryland. Coming from a section where some of the best intercollegiate soccer in the country is played, the Old Liners rate as the favorites. In addition to the Maryland game Duke will also face High Point at Durham on October 28, Navy at Annapolis on October 30, Frostburg at Durham on November 1 and High Point at High Point on November 5. A home-and-home series with Davidson and single game with Clemson are also pending.
The Blue Devil harriers will be seeking to repeat their top heavy win of a year ago over the Quakers. Last season Duke won three out of four dual meets and finished fourth in the Southern Conference title chase. The Blue Devils' next foe will be William and Mary at Durham on October 19, followed by North Carolina at Durham on November 2, Navy at Annapolis on November 6 and the Southern Conference meet at College Park, Md., on November 23.
