Wins Essay Contest
COLUMBUS—A Portage County
high school student has been declared winner in the Ohio Farm
Bureau's state-wide soil conservation essay contest.
She is Jean White, route 1, Suffield. Miss White, who is a student
at Suffield High School, was presented with a $200 check for her
essay—"Our Destiny--the Soil"—
at a banquet held here May 6.
The banquet was called to honor
the five district winning essayists:
Donald Fischback, route 1, Anna;
Dale Bidwell, route
1, Orient;
Shirley Jewell, route
3,
Eaton;
John Arnold, Wellington; and Miss
White.
Each
was
presented with a
bronze engraved plaque.
Judges for this year's contest
were: Dr. C. L. Dow, dep't of
Geology, Ohio University; W. B.
Wood, acting director of Agricultural
Extension, OSU; and John
W. Ferguson, Ohio Department of
Natural Resources.
