LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25.—"More colonists will come this year than last year or any other year since people began to come to California, I think," said T. C. Peck, general passenger agent of the Salt Lake road, yesterday.
"Most of them probably will come from the middle west and for the most part they will be farmers and stockraisers.
"The cold winters and the period of inactivity, when the earth is chilled, means an annual loss to the farmer there. This fact he is learning, and so each year brings more settlers to the Southland, where work can be carried on all the time and where practically no time is lost. There will be people, of course, from all quarters of the globe, in search of new homes, but I believe that the majority of the colonists will come from the middle west.
They will start from their homes the opening day of the low rates, September 25, and continue to take trains until October 10, when the rate ends. For a few days after that they will be arriving here."
