For The Cecil Whig
Fire Insurance.
Mr. Editor: - It is to be hoped after the experience of our Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Caroline and Harford counties, where it has lost thousands of dollars, they begin to think of confining its operations to Cecil alone, farther than which they never to have been extended. The fire at Havre de Grace will alone, cost the company five thousand dollars. These losses almost altogether, out of the pockets of the people of Cecil county. It is very likely that it is the dangerous property of others that is insured with us; experience shows this: and our safe property has to bear the damages. I think it is time to overhaul and put down all the specious and unfounded arguments in favor of enlarging the business of the Company by taking in dangerous property at a distance, and notice ought to be given to all Insurers outside the county that their property will be refused the current year. Due precaution requires this: the stability of the company and the rest of the members in Cecil require this.
