PORTSMOUTH, April 8.

The inhabitants of this town at a meeting for the purpose, unanimously voted (in addition to the town watch) to keep up by turns a nightly watch to patrol the streets, to guard and secure the lives & property of the inhabitants against incendiaries, they are divided into four wards, and three from each ward patrol the streets from 10 o'clock in the evening until sunrise, such has been the vigilance of this Watch they have already taken up sundry strolling suspicious persons, who after being examined before a Justice of the Peace and nothing appearing against them, were dismissed, although some of them were strongly suspected of having some evil design in view.
