9 MEN SAVE ONE VILLAGE IN WISCONSIN

Refuse to Leave Posts as Forest Fire Sweeps Down Upon Them

CRANDON, Wisconsin, Aug. 8.-

Because nine men refused to leave their forest fire fighting posts when the flames seemed beyond control, the village of Nelma on the Michigan-Wisconsin line was saved early today.

Dozens of other fires continue to endanger the Lake Superior district.

One hundred persons evacuated Nelma as the fire swept near, but the nine men played water from the Brule River and while several small buildings were destroyed the larger buildings were saved.
