WASHINGTON. (UP)—Democrats had a theme Saturday for their opposition to the Eisenhower administration—the charge that its record is one of "give-away, back away and dream away."
Sen. Jackson (D-Wash) contributed the phrase Friday in a speech to a $24 a plate Democratic luncheon here.
Margaret Truman, daughter of former President Truman, predicted a Democratic victory in the congressional election next year.
Jackson said the Republicans are giving away the nation's resources, and backing away from tax cut pledges and other 'campaign promises and:
"They want to dream away the Russian menace so they can safely cut the Navy and the Air Force. They want to dream away the entire free world around us in their haste to get back to a high tariff era."
On the floor of the Senate, Sen. Magnuson (D-Wash) accused the Eisenhower administration of scheming "to make the resources of the West a grab-bag for eastern corporations and Wall Street underwriters"
He denounced withdrawal by Secretary of the Interior McKay of opposition to a plan for private power development on the Snake River between Idaho and Oregon
Sen Morse (Ind-Ore) who left the Republican party to oppose Eisenhower but did not become a Democrat. suggested that the dam is built by the Idaho Power Co., should be named "Eisenhower Dam," as a monument to be left for all to see what happens when the people go to sleep."
