E. E. Kiefer, field youth personnel supervisor for NYA, was in El Centro Friday making arrangements to take over the recruiting of youths interested in obtaining training in war work industry.
Kiefer expects to be at the U. S. employment office at 540 State street in El Centro about twice a month to interview boys and girls who wish to enter the resident training centers for training. The centers for girls are in San Diego and Sacramento and those for boys at San Luis Obispo and Richmond.
At the girls' training centers aircraft sheet metal riveting, electric assembly, forge work, machine shop and welding are taught. Boys are instructed in shipfitting, welding, machine shop, radio, and wood work.
Placements are very frequent from these centers, Kiefer said, after six weeks to three months of training.
Youths are paid $10 a month and room, board and medical care as well as uniforms are furnished during the training period.
