Juvenile delinquency is on the increase, but not among Jehovah's witnesses. In a world beset with the problem of increasing juvenile delinquency, Jehovah's Witnesses say that they have found the answer in systematic Bible teaching.
"The solution to the delinquency problem is simply a return to God's rule of conduct," so stated Emmett Lenoir, Jr. of 1165 Van Buren Street, Gary. The Lenoir family are associated with the Central Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lenoir, being the presiding minister.
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Bible training and rules of conduct are necessary to meet the needs of youth. Those needs are (1) wisdom or knowledge upon which to build faith and (2) a goal in life based on that faith. They point out that the comments of many "experts" regarding the solution to the delinquency problem actually parallel the Bible's principles.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Lenoir, Jr. have been Bible students since 1950, and in 1951 they symbolized their dedication by being baptized. It was in 1953 that the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society appointed Mr. Lenoir, Jr. as presiding minister of the Central Congregation in Gary, which at present consists of a group numbering 140. His secular employment is with the United States Steel Corporation.
