Full Text

The democrats of the present day, pretend great regard for John Adams, late president of the United States. He is now held up by them as an excellent Republican and as a man whose sole intentions are for the good of the country: Now, as the Federalists were of that opinion and certain it is Mr. Adams was a decided Federalist--the present praise of Mr A. by the Demos, ill accords with the following extract from the "Independent Chronicle of May, 1806."

"In the Cockade administration of '98--those halcyon days of Federalism, what Republican was in place under the violent reign of John Adams? A Gentleman then in Office was displaced because he refused to sign an address extolling, his, intended Majesty, for what he had done and for what he could do: what set of men ever exercised Political intolerance, than these false styled friends to order have done? Hamilton, planted--Morris watered and Adams gave the increase!!"
