Excitement In The City-An Alleged Negro Thief Arrested And taken to Arkansas "VIET ARMIs."

In last Monday's Avalanche we gave the particulars of the arrest of a man named Alfred Jackson, alias Frank Rose, who, it is alleged, stole a negro from Mr. John H. McGavock in 1853. The negro was recovered and Jackson lodged in jail, but succeeded in effecting his escape. He was re-arrested here last Saturday week, as before stated, and placed in jail.

Saturday two men from Arkansas, who knew Jackson, came here for him, but finding that they had to go through a tedious process if they pursued a legal plan for his arrest, they struck out a more expeditious plan. Jackson was taken before Judge Swayne on a writ of habeas corpus and no one appearing against him, of course he was discharged. He returned to jail to get his clothing, and on leaving that place he was seized and carried down to the steamboat Black Hawk. on board of which he was placed, under the charge of Newton Ross, of Osceola-at whose instance he was arrested-to be taken to Osceola.

On the way from the jail to the boat he resisted with all his power, shrieking murder, murder, but his struggles were in vain. The occurrence created some little excitement and attracted a large crowd but the feeling was evidently with the Arkansians.

It is said that for three years Jackson was overseer for W. O. Butler esq., of Jackson, Tenn., and that he bore a good character in that situation.
