BALTIMORE, April 30.
RAINBOW OF THE MOON.
On Friday morning last about half past
10 o'clock, a remarkable phenomenon was
observed. The evening was cloudy, and
the Moon had been up near an hour, when
a Rainbow was discovered, extending from
North to West. It did not possess the
colours of a Rainbow of the Sun, but had
a milky appearance; its apparent diameter
about 2 feet and an half--a few drops of
rain fell, and shortly a cloud obscuring the
light the Rainbow suddenly disappeared;
the Thermometer stood then at 56 of Fe-
renheit; its continuance was nearly twen-
ty minutes; little or no wind prevailed at
that time. This circumstance seems to
prove the truth of the present theory of
rainbows in an eminent degree, viz: that
they are caused by the reflection of light
upon the falling drops of rain.
