Full Text

NEW YORK. April 6.
Captain Brackenridge, who arrived here on Tuesday last in about six weeks from Madeira, informs us that the beginning of February last they had as violent a gale of wind at that island as has ever been known there, in which all the vessels in the Bay were forced out to sea. In the storm the Calcutta Indiaman, Captain Thompson, outward-bound, ran foul of Captain Robinson, in a ship from Philadelphia, and carried away his foremast and bolt sprit, but happily got clear again without any further damage.
