The efficiency of the Buckeye Fire company, was clearly shown Thursday morning when it was called to the Friendly Cafe, the scene of a burning inferno that was making rapid headway. Equipped with only their auxiliary tank of 350 gallons of water and several fire extinguishers, on their arrival, the boys went to work with a vim and stopped the blaze in its tracks.

According to Oscar Francis, proprietor of the Cafe, the fire started about 10:45, when the fuel tank of their Electrolux gas refrigerator blew up after being filled by mistake with gasoline instead of kerosene. With the impact of the explosion, the place almost instantly filled with flames and those in the place at the time were lucky to get out, however, no one was injured.

The contents of the building were practically all ruined. The rear was almost entirely burned, leaving the rest of the interior badly charred and cracking the front windows.

The portion of the building to the south containing Mr. Kring's Shoe Shop barely escaped being damaged, as, according to Mr. Kring, smoke was coming thru the walls as if being forced in by pressure, and had it not been for the quick efficient work of the firemen, his place soon would have been a mass of flames, but his equipment had been carried out soon after the fire started.

Payton and Zellner, proprietors of the Buckeye Exchange, located directly south of the shoe shop, are thanking their lucky stars that the Buckeye fire boys were on the job, for if they had not, their place might have gone up in smoke. In fact there is no telling where it would stop.

It is reported that there was no insurance on either the building or the contents. It has been learned that remodeling of the place is contemplated by Mrs. Jeff Roberts the owner.
