THE STORM ALLAYED.
In Imitation of Prior's Manner
The Devil's in Woman, expensive as fair!
Not China, their Likeness, is worthy their Care.
Because that poor Tray dipt his Nose in the Cream,
(And your Ladyship's Lapdog has oft done the same)
Could Your Prettiness think of, you passionate Jade,
Nought else but the Teapot to throw at his Head?
This Teapot! your Airs may the Devil confound!
If it cost me a Penny it cost me a Pound.
These Fragments! survey them, without and within,
The Gilding, Enamel, such never were seen!
And then let me tell you, to add to the Matter,
For Whiteness there's Nothing can match them in Nature.
Not match them in Nature, with that she laid bare
A Neck that with Snow 'twere a Sin to compare;
Convinc'd of your Error, pray, Sir, look you here!
O Power of Beauty! my Passion and Pot,
And every Thing else, in a Look I forget;
With her Charms she has amply atoned for the Ill,
And may break me another whenever she will.
