Full Text

A Heroine.—The Lafayette (La.) Statesman says that Rebecca Biernstein, the young Polish Jewess, who was decoyed away by Joubert, a quadroon, on the pretence that he was a white man, rich and unmarried, and was subsequently taken by the court and placed under the protection of guardians, becoming satisfied of the infamous imposture practised on her, on Sunday last called on Joubert and invited him to a walk; when near Annunciation square she drew a pistol, reproached him for the disgrace he had put upon her, and shot him through the head. The mulatto scoundrel will probably not die, but he will carry through life the evidence of an outraged woman's revenge.
