PRELIMINARY MEETING AT NEW CASTLE—A REPUBLICAN VETERAN CLUB ORGANIZED—MEETING THIS EVENING.

A meeting of the Democrats of New Castle for the purpose of forming a campaign club, was held in the Court House on Saturday evening. The attendance was very large, the Court House being filled.

The meeting was called to order by electing George A. Maxwell temporary chairman, and J. W. Mackey Secretary.

The following committee on permanent organization was appointed: William Herbert, John Gormley, J. M. Housman, and Charles Herdman.

Committee on Uniforms—Sheriff Pyle, Frank Patton, James Toner.

On Reading Matter—J. M. Housman, Geo. M. Riley, John Doran.

On motion the meeting adjourned subject to the call of the committee on permanent organization. Repeated cheers were given for Hancock and English.

Shawtown has been up and doing, and has organized a club to be known as Co. A. "Dougherty Guards," Hancock and English Club of New Castle Hundred.

The membership at present numbers about 100. The officers of the club will be elected during the present week. An able drill master has been secured, and the company will soon be in readiness for the coming campaign.

An adjourned meeting of the Veteran Soldiers and Sailors, was held in the Lincoln club room, on Saturday evening, Peter B. Ayers in the chair, and Wm. O'Connor Secretary.

The Committee on Permanent Organization made the following report:

President—Major W. Y. Swiggett.

First Vice President—Lieut J. S. Wheeler.

Second Vice President—Capt. John Carroll.

Secretary—John E. Frock.

Treasurer—E. H. Gregg.

Captain of the Club Peter B. Ayers.

Lieutenants—Jas. Wainwright and Wm. O'Connor.

Sergeant—Jas. Osborn.

After due consideration it was decided to call the organization the Garfield Veteran Union Guards, of Delaware.

The following committees were appointed:

On Finance—J. E. Frock, Matthew Macklin, W. S. McNair, Allen Gawthrop and E. H. Gregg.

On Laws—D. Crawford, G. Moore, H. McConnell, J. S. Litzenburg and Z. Pickels.

On Uniform—G. H. Jackson, George Stout, Jos. Duffy, W. H. Miller and Jas. Fletcher.

On Room—W. P. Bushell, A. Borligh, S. S. Johnson, W. J. Blackburn and W. Hann.
