KNOXVILLE, Sept. 6.

On Monday last the General Assembly of this Territory commenced their session in this town.

General Rutherford, long distinguished for his abilities and faithful services in the legislature of North Carolina is appointed President of the Legislative Council.

On Wednesday the 4th instant the Legislative Council and Members of the house of Representatives convened together, as required by the Ordinance for the government of the Territory, and proceeded to the election of a member to represent this Territory in the Congress of the United States, when James White Esq of Davidson county was duly elected. The votes for James White 11,--for William Cocke 7.
