Full Text

Translated from the Persian.

YESTERDAY.

SAY ye studious, grave and old,
To me all ye young and gay.
Tell me whence I may behold
The fleeting form of Yesterday

Where's autumnal plenty fled?
Where's the winter's cold dismay?
Where's the vernal flowers sped
Where is summer's yesterday

Jo und springs fractional.
Round our smiling goblet play;
Weave the power of rosy joy.
Like the ghost today.

Odorous sweet and generous wine
Hither, boy! with speed convey
'Tis mine: wreathe with roses twine
Ere they fade like Yesterday

Bring in the bowl and pass it round.
Lightly tune the sportive lay,
Let the festal hour be crowned
Ere 'tis lost like Yesterday
