May 15. On Saturday last arrived here the brig Holker, belonging to this port. She was chased off our capes by some hungry Englishmen, but by her superiority in sailing, got clear of them. She has taken 14 prizes during her cruise. By this vessel we learn, that the French and English fleets were engaged part of three days, and that the English were so roughly handled, that not more than five or six were in a condition to set their top-gallant-sails; four or five were towed into St. Lucia dismasted, and otherwise in a wretched condition. The French had a 74 gun ship blown up; but they had not a single vessel taken, although they had at least 200 sail of merchantmen under their convoy; and to all appearance the ships of war suffered comparatively, but trifling in the engagement, as they were able to keep the sea, and in good order to pursue their course to the westward, without interruption, where, it is hoped, they will soon effectually open the eyes of our inveterate enemies, by the reduction of that rich and valuable Island, Jamaica.

A flag which arrived on Sunday from Providence, which she left the first of May confirms the account already published, with the additional circumstances of Admiral Rodney having been killed, and the Count de Grasse wounded in the said engagement; and that there had been great rejoicings and illuminations at Cape Francois, on account of the victory gained by the French fleet over the English, in the action of the 12th ult. in the West-Indies.
