Extract of a letter from New Orleans, dated
May 5th.

"Clay's letter has raised a perfect whirlwind
here against him. No man can get a thousand votes
in Louisiana unless he be for Tyler's Treaty. In the
last twenty four hours nobody is talked of for the
electoral vote of this State but John Tyler, the au-
thor of Annexation. If it be true, as rumored, that
Van Buren has also taken ground against the Treaty,
he will fare even worse than Clay, for the Democra-
tic party are, to a man, for instant annexation."
