DEAF AND DUMB.

An American gentleman, who paid a visit last winter to the Asylum of the Deaf and Dumb at Paris, states that he was received by the Director in a very affable manner. The proficiency of the pupils was exhibited to him. The following question was put to one of the lads--"Whom do you love the most?" to which he replied thus--"I love God the most because he is all powerful--because he made heaven and earth, and all things that we enjoy." To another was asked, "have you any idea of music?"--who answered, "Yes I think I have. it is the means of singing and of enchanting the living ears; it is to speaking what dancing is to walking; it is the flux and reflux of harmonious sounds." In one of the apartments of the institution, a case was shown full of breast pins, snuff boxes, and a hundred other articles, made by the pupils. The practice of the institution is to give trades to the scholars, and whenever a pupil shows a disposition to any branch, that talent is cultivated. There are in the school upwards of one hundred pupils, mostly boys.
