REPRESENTATIVES EN ROUTE MEXICO PREPARE FOR COLONY
Two Families Have Been There Past Year, But 100 Other Families Will Move There Early in New Year.
Three representatives of the American Mennonites of the state of Ohio, en route to Paradise Valley, a tract of land being colonized by this cult south of Saltillo in the state of Nuevo Leon, by what will later be one hundred families, but which now has only two families on the land.
These Mennonites, all American citizens, born in Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania, are descendants of men and women who were residents of that section of the country prior to revolutionary days, and the reason that they are quitting Ohio at this time is because of the passage of a law by that state prohibiting the teaching of the German language in the schools of that state and other reasons as well, as they want their children to learn all languages.
The three representatives who arrived in Laredo last evening are en route to their tract of land south of Saltillo to arrange for the bringing of the remaining number of about 100 families to the colony, the first two families being sent there about a year ago to conduct experimentations along agricultural lines and the experiment proving satisfactory. The main colony will probably enter Mexico about the beginning of the new year, these being the first American Mennonites to colonize in Mexico.
