The dentist who skillfully treats your teeth in 1959 and performs other services is a very different man from the dentist of a century ago.
The man who practiced dentistry a century ago may have received his training in a machine shop or a watchmaker's shop or he may have been a medical graduate who developed particular ability in dentistry. His methods were crude, his knowledge was meager and his technical procedures were often highly guarded secrets.
Progress toward bringing better practice of dentistry to the citizen of Georgia was begun with the organization of a state association in 1859. The Georgia Dental Association's centennial observance in Atlanta October 25-28 is featured in the October issue of Georgia's Health, monthly bulletin of the Georgia Department of Public Health, Atlanta. Georgia's Health is mailed free upon request to citizens of Georgia.
A centennial proclamation by Governor Ernest Vandiver salutes dental progress. State leaders in dentistry and public health recount the benefits the public has received from Georgia's dentists.
